Though they are native Upper Canadians, Don and Dave Carroll have been adopted by the East Coast music scene and East Coast music lovers. The Sons of Maxwell have become crowd favourites across the country and recently the Sons’ fever has spread into Europe. Their high-energy performances along with their songwriting abilities have made them a hit.

Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Sons’ have released five albums in the last seven years. Dave Carroll (lead vocals/harmonies/songwriter/guitarist) has earned the reputation as one of Canada’s finest up and coming songwriters. Don Carroll (lead vocals /harmonies/percussionist), has a voice perfectly suited for his brother’s songs. Together they are a formidable duo. The results of an evening listening to the Sons of Maxwell is a good party with lots of crowd participation, singing, clapping and dancing.

September 1998 saw the release of The Neighbourhood, from which three videos were produced. “The Neighbourhood”, “Oceanside Again”, and “Queen of Argyle” received airplay on CMT Canada, all to favourable review.

Accolades for the Sons’ include the Music Industry Association of Nova Scotia 2000 Group of the Year and four East Coast Music Award nominations. This year, Sons of Maxwell are nominated for Group of the Year.

Sons of Maxwell are currently working on their new album due for release in May 2001. The album will feature a number of new songs penned by Dave. In the meantime, if the winter blues are getting you down, hop a flight to the Dominican Republic to spend a week in the sun with the fine entertainment of the Sons’. They will perform for two weeks (February 28 – March 14) in Puerto Plata. If that is not in the budget, get a hold of one of the Sons’ releases to brighten your day.
