Though they are native Upper Canadians, Don and Dave Carroll have been adopted by the East Coast music scene and East Coast music lovers. The Sons of Maxwell have become crowd favourites across the country and recently the Sons’ fever has spread into Europe. Their high-energy performances along with their songwriting abilities have made them a hit.
Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Sons’ have released five albums in the last seven years. Dave Carroll (lead vocals/harmonies/songwriter/guitarist) has earned the reputation as one of Canada’s finest up and coming songwriters. Don Carroll (lead vocals /harmonies/percussionist), has a voice perfectly suited for his brother’s songs. Together they are a formidable duo. The results of an evening listening to the Sons of Maxwell is a good party with lots of crowd participation, singing, clapping and dancing.
September 1998 saw the release of The Neighbourhood, from which three videos were produced. “The Neighbourhood”, “Oceanside Again”, and “Queen of Argyle” received airplay on CMT Canada, all to favourable review.
Accolades for the Sons’ include the Music Industry Association of Nova Scotia 2000 Group of the Year and four East Coast Music Award nominations. This year, Sons of Maxwell are nominated for Group of the Year.
