 H20: "Go"
This punk band hailing from New York has many things to say in their latest album, Go, allowing their voice to be heard with boundless energy, taking the road less typically travelled with lyrics in this genre. This band's mission statement is to "provide youthful invigorating bursts of energy with melodic hooks and a positive message." They follow this to the letter.

The album is fast, hard and upbeat…swimming from the first to the last note. It has a delicious beat and is enjoyable to listen to, but if there is a drawback, it is that all of the songs seem to blend together into one. This is good for some, not so for others. The words and music are different in each song, but each song seems starts out with its own identity and the slowly turn into the others somewhere along the way.

Never-the-less, the message that this band is relaying to their fans is of the upmost positivity. They take everyday life problems, encounters and situations and allow the listener feel they are not alone and that there are people just like them going through much the same thing.

In "Role Model" the message is to rely on and learn from the people around you, because they are the people who will be there at the end of the day. In tunes such as "Self-Reliable" and "Ripe or Rotting" the message is to believe in yourself, and you can trust yourself to make the right decision.

There are also songs which bring death into the spotlight, but they present themselves quite unlike other bands who present the dark side. The song "Forest King", which contains the line "killing is a cowardly act", talks of the concept of survival of the fittest, but states that people do not need to use physical means; the brain is a powerful tool if it is used. "Shine the Light" talks of the natural death and rebirth of our souls and inner self as we progress and advance through life.

An interesting cut on this album, as it is not listed on the jacket, is a remake of Madonna's "Like a Prayer". They take this familiar tune and claim it as their own. The words and basic melody do not change, but the presentation is deftly brought into their world of punk as they have made it into a fast, pounding version…a great transformation from it's pop roots.

From start to finish of GO, H2O licenses you to feel how great they are at performing. Their passion, boundless energy and positivity shines clear from start to finish. A little diversification in their sound would go a long way in the presentation of their message, but overall this a great album for parents to give their kids. It is not full of the stuff that many people like to censor, but it is full of the kind of exuberant music often used by skateboarders, minus all the foul language and controversial, sensitive subject matter which is often in accompaniment. Verdict: Great choice to impress the kids!!
