Fall Silent: "Six Years In The Desert" |

Six guys stirring up a hellacious noise. I guess
they're into the punk and metal sounds in fairly
equal doses, and this cd lives up to each. Quick
drums meet skeletal bass(es, there are two, mind
you), and chugga-chugga guitars tuned to hang low
like Ron Jeremy coming out of the shower.
Fall Silent will be in the midst of a straight-up
hardcore number, then the song shifts, the
drummer takes a breather, and it all scrapes
headlong into a

Slayer-worthy mosh part, complete
with double-bass, which oughtta really bum the
mall-punks out.
Evil sounding, and musically complex enough to
not really be comfy in the punk camp, but not
goofy enough (i.e., caught up in a sexist
dreamworld) to be "true" heavy metal. The bass
interludes on "The Wheel of
Pain" kept me coming back, as did the
Pat Benatar cover.
