When asked for an explanation of their
style of music, Darwin's Waiting Room replied, "Heavy,
melodic, groove oriented, and emotional." No other
statement could describe this five-part band's music any better.
Formed on January 1st, 2000 in Miami,
Florida, they were called "rock's secret gem" by MTV
News, and appear to be on the verge of breaking out.
Darwin's Waiting Room's music is a close marriage of rock and melody.
It's not often that you hear a song that effectively mixes rap,
rock, and mellow vocals in one swooping attempt. The
first single, "Feel So Stupid (Table 9)", which is
also one of the included videos, is a perfect example.
The song rocks along at a steady pace, yet still
manages to sound soft and mellow at the same time.
Orphan comes with two music videos in .MPG
format. From watching the videos (repeatedly), it's evident
that the live show is undoubtedly their
strength. It ripples with electricity and
potency.

The band describes their live show as "high
energy, intense dance moves with cutting edge
choreography, monkeys, elaborate costumes, lip
syncing, and $240 worth of pudding." Despite the unfortunate lack of
pudding or monkeys in the videos, the band put on a
great show regardless.
The producer, Jason Bieler, also recently
produced the debut album for Nonpoint.
Darwin's Waiting Room emcee Grimm said, "Jason was the best guy
for the job because he knew the band well, and he knew
exactly what to get from each one of us. He knew the
expectations, personalities, and talent of every guy
in the band, whereas if we went to somebody who didn't
know the band well enough, I don't think he would have
gotten what Jason did."
This CD was something new for me. It is not the
type of music that I normally listen to, and I had
never heard of the band before. I keep finding it in
my CD player though. There is a lot of talent here,
and I think we will be hearing more from these guys in
the future. Orphan is definitely worth a closer
look.
