The Crystal Method: "Tweekend" |
 |
Somewhere along the line electronica music got cute. What intitially felt like a revolution
for the better ended up being simply another Madonna "phase". Even the funked-souled stylings
of a certain Fat Boy lost it's luster after the thousandth play on mainstream radio dreck. "Real"
funk-souled beats got played, promoted, then pushed behind the curtain of yesterday's hit musical.
'Tis a shame, really, but then again maybe not. As with any passing fad the "real" players would stay a
small step out of the spotlight and then re-emerge on stage after the crowd wearily returned home. Such
is life for The Crystal Method, Godfathers in a cage filled with rats.

Tweekend is their loud whisper that the
music is still here, the music is still real and while the others go to hell, "psst, do ya wanna
come over for a listen?
Would it be an oxymoron to say that legitimate electronica music can be made without gimmicks? A whole
breed of the pulsating posers evolved on just that: the tweaks and the twiddles. Tweekend is gimmick
music without the gimmicks. Dope without the dope. Wine without the whine. Tweaks abound to fill up
your weekend, your Thursday and your Monday to Wednesday. Wake up all of thee that slept through
the last wave. Wake up! Wake Up! The new wave has hit the shore.
