I just did not know what to make of this one.
It's kinda hip hop (on one
finger). Then the opposite hand is going,
nuh-huh! and waving quickly at
my Gangstarr "Full Clip" cd.
cLOUDDEAD doesn't sound much like "hip hop", and
these are quite obviously not black guys. I
present Nosdam, Why? and Doseone. It's not as
though any of these guys has any soul on them
either. El-P has soul. Everlast has soul.
Evidence has soul. Eminem has soul (notice they
all begin with 'E'?), Madchild has mad soul, Son
Doobie has soul, Cage has soul, Click Tha Supa
Latin has soul to spare. B-Real has soul. Aesop
Rock has soul. Buck 65 and Sixtoo have
(italics)some(italics) soul. Necro has soul. The
Beasties have copious supplies of soul in the
back room at Grand Royal Records. As such,
Scapegoat Wax has soul. Shit, even Sole has soul!
cLOUDDEAD though, not only don't have
any soul, they don't seem to be
bothered, thank you very much.

That's not soul, that's just 4th Dimension. The
beats don't groove much either, unless you just
had electro-shock therapy. They lurch forward and
to the left usually. The vocals come in with
two.uh, emcees hitting the mic head on and at the
same time, sometimes echoing what the other one
says. Sometimes confusing your ears with bits
going simultaneously, which sounds like it would
be annoying, but is actually pretty cool. It's a
bit like two entirely different songs happening
synchronically. Go back and listen to "And All
You Can Do Is Laugh" or "Apt. A" again. It's like
art that appears to be an entirely different
thing when it's upside down.

into a vat of honey glaze. Shall we live, or
shall we laminated ourselves into a standard
appetizing position."
