Brutus: "For The People" |
 |
Brutus was originally formed in Toronto by Wally Zwolinski in 1969. Over the years the band underwent many personnel changes but Zwolinski remained the constant and the leader of the band. Throughout the early 70's the band released singles but it wasn’t until 1975, when they signed to GRT Records that their break finally came.
The band managed to record a self titled album for the label that despite numerous set backs, like the changing of producers, lack of recording funds and a tight schedule, managed to be released in 1976 . The album produced a number of singles that went to the top of the charts including "Who Wants To Buy A Song", "Ooh Mama Mama", and "Sailing" all in 1976. Shortly after the release of the Brutus album, the band broke up.
After Brutus split up Zwolinski, embarked on a brief solo career

as Walter Zwol and went on to form The Rage in the eighties. For The People is the first CD release of the music of Brutus.
This set features the entire Brutus self titled album from 1976 digitally remastered . The package, which is part of Bullseye Records MAPLegacy series, also contains in depth liner notes written by noted Canadian music authority Jaimie Vernon with notes from the original band members.
For those unfamiliar with the music of Brutus, the band plays some really great bouncy melodic commercial pop sounds that truly deserve to be heard again. Brutus is another one of Canada’s long lost bands that have been waiting to be rediscovered by a new generation of Canadian Music fans.
