Sons of Maxwell News

Sons Of Maxwell If Sons of Maxwell were trying to get music fans to notice they are alive, they certainly accomplished this at their album release party for Among the Living, their sixth album to date. Starting the night off with "Get It Jumping", where the chorus states "Everybody get the party jumpin' now" Dave and Don Carroll had the audience participating and singing with them right from the first moment they took the stage in Casino Nova Scotia's "Schooner Room".

It was obvious that 'The Boys' and the band were having as much fun as the audience. During a series of slower songs which included "A Mile A Minute", and "The 507", Don laughingly mentioned a Sponsorship for Kleenex. They performed "Mrs Stanley", a song inspired by their grandmother and their memories of her always being referred to as 'Mrs Stanley.' A highlight was a song entitled "Hold On" which Dave wrote after hearing a story from his father. During this beautifully done song, based on an Alzheimer patient and her husband, the audience was rendered both silent and spellbound during Dave's performance and responded with thundering applause upon completion.

Don and Dave performed and spoke of "So Confusing", and the positive feedback they have received from its release, after just one week. Don encouraged the audience to call and make many requests for the song as he was getting tired of doing it all by himself, with Dave interjecting that Don was running out of 'different voices' to use. This got a good laugh and a response from the audience.

'The Boys' told the stories behind many of their songs, most of which were penned by Dave. The audience was treated to the story of why they learned one of the songs Dave did not write, "Mr Tanner" which was at the request of their father.

Sons of Maxwell @ CanEHdian

They have been performing this song for years, but last night was one of the most beautiful performances of it I have heard them do.

Accompanied by Cathy Porter, Reese Nearing, Dave Burton and Jon Park Wheeler they performed every song from Among The Living, as well as some older favourites from past albums such as "Maggie", "Sixteen for Awhile", and "Oceanside Again" which had the crowd singing and clapping along. 'The boys' were also treated to the ultimate compliment - having a few fans take to dancing in a room with no dance floor. During the performance of "Deli Cat" they were joined by the Freezone Dancers, who danced along the front and to the side of the stage. The only thing missing was the cat serving the sandwiches!

A standing ovation and a long line-up of fans waiting patiently for autographs signalled the end of the CD release party for Sons of Maxwell. Don Carroll stated that "We had a wildly successful night; a great way to start off the new album tour!" If there was anyone out there who thought that these boys were only a good cover band, one listen to this new release will prove otherwise. Dave Carroll has proven that he is a very talented songwriter, and Sons of Maxwell will be at the top of the charts soon.
