Yes, it's that Shania, long before she turned the country-music industry upside down. As the '80s rolled into the '90s, and she was toiling in a Canadian resort, it appears as if the making of this CD was an attempt to transform her into the new Pat Benatar, a kind of rock goddess specializing in the power ballad. That she had the voice for it is beyond doubt--her expressive singing is by far the best thing about this album. The songs (mostly cowritten by Shania and Paul Sabu) leave much to be desired, as do the generally predictable arrangements. However, as a little peek into her past, it's definitely of interest, and the fact that some of the proceeds go to charity means that it's not a complete cash in.
