There are a lot to forget about the eighties: Miami Vice (both in clothing
style, and that stubble look), leg-warmers, the song ‘Sussudio’, the macho
posturing of ‘Born in the U.S.A.’, and Kenny Loggins entire career. The
eighties were not a decade for indie rock. Bands like Mission of Burma, just
eventually broke up after one of the guys went deaf. Aside from the rise of
R.E.M., there weren’t many romantic Nirvana-esque stories of how the great
band took it to the Man, and somehow came out on top. You were either Huey
Lewis BIG, or at least managed to pull a one hit wonder scheme like the
Hooters. Not a lot of in-between back in those days. Cock Robin were a group
that died quietly after their third Columbia album “First Love/Last Rights".
Collected on this cd are a few of their better songs from a career that by
logic, should have at least had fame on the same level as, say, Toni Basil
(“Oh Mickey, you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind…"). Excellent
songs herein, and now one can only follow the career of Peter Kingsberry
(see the site below), or hope that co-conspirator Anna LaCazio will bring
something else out soon. This compilation has the single to “When You’re
Heart is Weak" (the one time I saw them on MTV), a live track, and several
B-sides. Excellent.
